The Barossa Valley Shiraz 2006 is now a member of the James Halliday Annual Dozen.
"I'm sure as one can be that you will be delighted with every bottle in the Annual Dozen" James Halliday

Epsilon Shiraz comes from 32-year-old vines in Greenock. It was aged for 10 months in seasoned French oak. Purple-colored, it has an excellent bouquet of cedar, tobacco, violets, plum and blueberry. Medium-bodied, the wine has excellent depth, layered blue fruit flavors, and ripe tannins. It will evolve for 3-5 years and drink well through 2017 but can be enjoyed now.

Dark and pruney liquer smelling, plus older wood spice. An impression of Rhoneness about it. Has plenty of sweet stewed fruits on the tongue, raspberry essence-like and then becoming rhubarb tart. Long lasting in the mouth with chewy, flinty tannins.

The Shiraz is quiete different from many BV Shirazes I've tasted of late. The colour is deep red with a pink hue around the edge of the glass (indicating its youth) The nose shows whiffs of violet adn white peppery spice together wtih some plummy flavours while the palate is soft and velvety with a clean acid/tannin/oad structure together wtih white peppery spice and soft stewed plumy fruit dominating.
A new-ish label featuring grapes grown on old-ish vines in the Greenock district of the Barossa. It's a fabulously complex regional wine: rich, squashed plum flavours lead to licorice and exotic spices. Drink with Kangaroo
