Hempel Road Vineyard, near the small hamlet of Daveyston... Its our new piece of vineyard dirt with a nice selection of different soil types from sandyloam over shale rock, to sandyloams over redclay and limestone. Its going to be like that box of chocolates.....
We look forward to seeing what it will bring....

Before we plant the rootlings (young vines) the roots are trimmed and the shoots cut back.

The ground is deep ripped 2 times, in the middle of the rows and deeper where the vines will be planted.

All water lines need to be changed and adapted to suit the new plantings.

The planting begins...vines are planted with a water jet and the rootlings are then placed in the hole it makes... Its a job Aaron has become very good at over the years. after many years Helping his Father-in-law John Kalleske establish his vineyards.
The vines got off to a great start. We couldn't be happier with the way they have grown. Now looking forward to that first crop in 2010.

The old house and blacksmith building built in 1911.

Even this old girl will hopefully have a purpose for us in the future.
