Epsilon Tempranillo | Graciano 2007
Tempranillo and Graciano are well suited to the hot dry North of the Barossa Valley, where the Epsilon winery is located. Each vineyard batch is handpicked into half tonne bins and then destemmed into open fermenters, the wine is held cold on skins for a few days before the natural yeasts commence fermentation. A long cool ferment follows over seven to ten days before pressing into tanks to settle before transferring to seasoned barriques. Malolactic follows in barrel, where the wines are left on the lees for the extent of maturation. Campbell Mattinson “honest, rich and interesting” There's a great deal of punchy, silken flavour here. It tastes of chicory and coffee and sweet tar, with a modest, velvety chewiness keeping those robust flavours in check. Its' not a subtle wine that's for sure. But it's honest, rich and interesting. 91 points James Halliday"totally delicious" Bright colour; totally delicious and star-bright red fruit flavours to a light-medium-bodied wine that is content with its lot and hasn't been forced. 91 points Jim McMahonA blend of two Spanish grape varieties coming together for the common good. The colour is crimson and the nose offers herbal and plumy notes with hints of vanilla. Not too sure about what the Graciano grape contributes, but suffice to say, it's soft and fruity with sour cherry, wild berry, and spicy notes. This is another good wine with plenty of fruit; soft and silky with savoury characters coming through. The oak doesn't overpower, and the tannins are soft and nicely integrated.
